7 Secrets to Sipping at Sahara Las Vegas

Get down like Ben Franklin with some Milk Punch and more

By OTS Staff

SAHARA Las Vegas has been quietly enhancing its culinary offering since the resort made a return to its iconic brand name last year. While few traces of the former SLS Las Vegas visibly remain, the award-winning culinary program first established by SBE Hospitality continues to thrive under the resort’s new leadership. Executive beverage director Nate Hedlund has taken great care to build a robust beverage offering that tempts even the most seasoned of cocktail connoisseurs. If you haven’t had a chance to step into the new SAHARA, here are a few tips for tipping one back on your next trip.

FANCY A FERNET?

Fans of the Italian liquor can collect a rare, $5 Fernet-Branca coin at CASBAR Lounge. Bartenders around the world have been collecting, exchanging and requesting special Fernet-Branca coins for years, allowing them to play a unique game designed for the most in-the-know cocktail enthusiasts. Simply ask around your group for a Fernet-Branca coin. For carriers of the coin, the round of drinks is on the house. If you’re the one being asked and you can’t produce the coin, the round of drinks is on you. Not familiar with Fernet? You can learn more about the digestif here.

TAKE FLIGHT

Experience an innovative cocktail flight exploration of six craft cocktails in “Flight Unknown” presented exclusively at Bar Centro at Bazaar Meat by José Andrés. This cocktail flight takes guests through an immersive experience with fresh flavors and creative backstories tying back to time old traditions while simultaneously taking taste buds into new, unchartered territory.

BEN FRANKLIN’S MILK PUNCH

Take a sip back in time to colonial America with Ben Franklin’s Milk Punch. Benjamin Franklin’s famous Milk Punch recipe was left in a letter to James Bowdoin in 1763. Made just as the Founding Father intended, this unique drink is highlighted by Spanish brandy with lemon, nutmeg and milk, and takes more than 24 hours to make. Enjoy as one of the exclusively made craft cocktails to make up “Flight Unknown,” or enjoy on its own at Bar Centro at Bazaar Meat by José Andrés.

CASCADE AT CASBAR

CASBAR Lounge is the only place on The Strip where you can find a delicious Cascade Sour Beer on draft. Cascade Brewery out of Portland, Oregon is known as the pioneer of modern American sours. However, sours outside of Oregon are hard to find. For the initiated, offering Cascade on draft is like finding water in the desert.

SAVOR SUMMER

No matter the time of year, you can always enjoy your favorite theme park treat, adult style. Savor pineapple soft serve combined with Casamigos Reposado Tequila for the ultimate sweet treat. You can find the Dole Whip Margarita at Uno Más as well as the Retro Pool Lounge. Best of all, stop by Uno Más any night between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. and the drink is buy one, get one. Or, for a slightly different twist, try the Dole Strawberry Daiquiri. This perfect poolside potable consists of Mount Gay Eclipse Rum and strawberry soft serve and is available exclusively in Las Vegas at the Retro Pool Lounge.

MAS TEQUILA

Can’t choose between a Reposado or Anejo? At Uno Más you don’t have to. For just $25, you can “Build Your Own Tequila Flight” and choose one ounce each of Blanco, Reposado and Anejo from an impressive selection of top-notch tequila brands including Casamigos, Casa Noble, Patron, Milagro, Don Julio or Fortaleza.

HAPPY HOUSE

CASBAR Lounge will celebrate National Happy Hour Day on Thursday, Nov. 12 all day long with half-off featured cocktails; buy one, get one free beer; and $5 shots of Fireball, Jack Daniel’s Apple and New Amsterdam Pink Whitney. And, at this happy house, all industry employees will receive half off all scotch whisky drinks throughout the month of November. Simply show your photo ID and industry credentials, which can include a TAM Card, hotel or casino badge, or business card to take advantage of the special.
