By Melissa Gill

Memorial Day honors all veterans for their services in the military and a day we remember how fortunate we are because of the sacrifices they have made for us. While celebrating this holiday weekend with family and friends, here are five spots that are hosting specials and events.

Memorial Day Walk to Remember

In Cadence’s Central Park, flags will be placed with information about fallen soldiers on Monday, May 31, 2021 for Memorial Day. Stop by anytime between 8 a.m and 10 a.m. as the community walks to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. The walk is not timed and the event is free, but reservations are required. To learn more and sign up, visit here.

Red, White and Blue Special

If you are looking for a good place to eat for Memorial Day, Smoke & Fire BBQ will give active and retired military personnel 25 percent off their bill. Also, they will be offering a Red, White and Blue Special that feeds 10 to 12 people. The special includes: 10 Blueberry Chicken Sliders, A full rack of St. Louis Ribs, 10 Smoked Chicken Wings, Pulled Chicken, Pulled Pork, five different sides plus 10 Hawaiian rolls. All this food will only cost $99. To reserve the Red, White and Blue Special or order for pickup, call (725) 214-5398.

Patriotic Car Parade

Skye Canyon will be hosting their second annual Patriotic Car Parade on Saturday, May 29, 2021. This event gives the community a chance to show off their patriotic spirit and creativity by decorating their cars for Memorial Day.

The parade also will be supporting the Kline Veterans Fund, a non-profit organization helping vulnerable veterans with financial assistance. For just $5 donations to the Fund, families can register their vehicle to participate in the parade. About 50 vehicles are anticipated to show off their patriot pride starting the show at 10:15 a.m. The Kline Veterans Fund Float will be leading the way as the cars as they take a three-mile trip around Skye Canyon’s neighborhood.

Memorial Day Ceremony

On Saturday, May 29, The Las Vegas City Council will partner with The Lakes, The American Legion Post 76 and Ward 2 Councilwoman Victoria Seaman for the 2021 Memorial Day Ceremony held at Lake Sahara Park. The event will feature special guest speakers, a musical performance by local students and a wreath laying ceremony. This family-friendly event will start at 9 a.m. and will be free to attend.

Red, White and Cruise Memorial Day Yacht Party

Sit back and relax on the La Contessa Yacht at Lake Las Vegas this Memorial Day. There will be live music and drink specials on this 90 minute cruise. Celebrate the day with breathtaking views and a cocktail in hand. Party admission costs $45, but if you want to go all out they also are offering VIP Tables. Reserve your spot here.
