Gibson x Aviator Nation is the stuff rock 'n' roll dreams are made of
By Nicole Cormier
It’s safe to say that a lot of creativity has emerged out of this pretty bizarre year. Idle hands and all that. One venture comes in the form of a collaboration between guitar mainstay, Gibson and ’70s inspired clothing brand, Aviator Nation. The capsule collection also celebrates Gibson’s leap into the apparel game, and the two brand styles complement each other perfectly.
Set to hit Aviator Nation stores soon, the initial line includes stylized logos and music-inspired imagery, like the iconic Flying V, all tailored to those who are nostalgic for or romanticize rock music’s heyday. With 14 different styles available, all sitting at a reasonable price point, the time is right to live out your vintage rocker dreams.
The Vegas Connection
The American-made lifestyle brand can be purchased both online and soon, in-store at Aviator Nation flagships across the country. This includes the vibrant and funky storefront located inside Wynn Las Vegas’ upscale mall, Wynn Plaza. But, as the entertainment capital of the world, of course Vegas has deeper connections to famed guitar maker.
Gibson is the axe of choice for many Vegas rock stars (both in its electric and acoustic versions). Members of Aerosmith recently touted their collection, while many other guitarists have played the instrument at one time or another in their careers. The list includes Santana, Keith Urban, Sting, Bryan Adams, David Lee Roth, Mick Jones (of Foreigner), George Strait, Van Morrison and likely others.
The guitar-maker, who also owns Baldwin, is said to be the rightful owner of Liberace’s famed bejeweled piano. And although only a replica lives here in Vegas, we celebrate his legacy in all forms.
Maybe the most significant link, both in size and meaning, is that the enormous 82-foot Hard Rock Hotel & Casino sign inspired by Pete Townshend’s No. 9 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. The now iconic tribute was recently saved by and relocated to the Neon Museum. Now that’s a huge tribute.
