Juneteenth is a national holiday. Let’s celebrate!

Juneteenth Becomes a National Holiday

This week all the national news networks aired President Biden signing legislation to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. In his announcement, he said, “We can’t rest until the promise of equality is fulfilled for every one of us in every corner of this nation. That, to me, is the meaning of Juneteenth.”

Vice President Harris gave a speech commemorating this historical moment and expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed in making this bill pass. “Throughout history Juneteenth has been known by many names: Jubilee Day, Freedom Day, Liberation Day, Emancipation Day and today, a national holiday,” said Vice President Harris. “We must learn from our history.”

Here in Las Vegas, according to KTNV Las Vegas, celebrations for Juneteenth this weekend will be taking place at the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum with a flag-raising ceremony, a poetry reading by Poet Laureate of Clark County (2017-2019) Vogue Robinson and a children’s art workshop (the first 250 kids are free because of the NV Energy Foundation); Water Street Plaza in Henderson will host the Juneteenth Jazz Legacy and Heritage Festival 2021 with live performances and educational workshops and the Las Vegas Juneteenth Festival will be at Kianga Isoke Palacio Park featuring local entertainers, community speakers, workshops and more.

Plus, The LGBTQ+ Center will be honoring the holiday by hosting Juneteenth Pride Celebration with local artists and local businesses celebrating the intersection of the Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

Sparrow + Wolf Serves a Father’s Day Special

For Father’s Day, Sparrow + Wolf is offering a special menu to celebrate and an original cocktail. They will be serving a Trio of Petite Steaks + Dram of Glenfiddich 23 Grand Cru which comes with three two-ounce steaks: Wagyu beef culotte, butter poached NY strip steak, and mushroom-crusted grass fed fillet. Alongside the steak will be a banchan set of cream spinach, miso lobster mac & cheese, loaded mini potato, chive crema, crispy lap cheong, black pepper jus, togarashi bearnaise plus burnt chimichurri.

To accompany the special, guests can order “Is That Gin in Your Pocket or Are You Just Happy to Tea me?” Created by barman David, the unique cocktail will be a mix of Hendrick’s Lunar gin, cold brewed black tea, cold pressed strawberry rhubarb, yuzu juice, black walnut bitters topped with ginger powder. Cheers!

The special runs only on Father’s Day, Sunday June 20 and costs $99. Sparrow + Wolf will be open for the holiday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and it is highly recommended to make a reservation. Visit here to save your spot.

Order Something Sexy for Martini Day

Sip on two sexy cocktails for National Martini Day at the new cold-pressed juice bar The Juice Standard inside The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas on Saturday, June 19. Enjoy a dry, dirty or shaken martini like their Dirty Martian made with bee resilient, vodka, vermouth and olive juice or their Sex Panther featuring Bee Cosmopilitan, vodka, Triple Sec and lemon. These tantalizing drinks are sure to fuel a bit of fun mischief while keeping you cool this weekend.

Governor Sisolak recently announced a program to encourage Nevadans to get vaccinated called Vax Nevada Days. In a Tweet, he says the promotion will be giving away $5 million in cash and prizes to about 2,000 Nevada residents who have been vaccinated. Read the post below for more details.

Sounds like it is worth a “shot”.
