Daytime offerings include sandwiches, salads, pastas and James Trees’s takes on brunch standards
James Trees has set a high bar for himself. The chef-owner of Esther’s Kitchen, Ada’s Wine Bar and Al Solito Posto (ASP), is revered for his approachable Cal-Italian style cuisine. With three hit restaurants, and a trendy brunch service at Esther’s already, there was a standard to meet as Trees rolled out the weekend meal service at ASP in Tivoli Village.
The ASP daytime offerings include sandwiches, salads, pastas and Trees’s takes on brunch standards. Oh yeah, and day drinking.
The cocktail selection is a highlight, both whimsical and well-prepared. There are three different bloody marys including the Spicy Italian, which utilizes a basil pesto paste to kick up the already kick-filled classic. There’s also a mix and match Prosecco Bar where imbibers can choose a puree – white peach, strawberry, or passionfruit – and a spirt (Cordial) – Elderflower St. Germaine, Pama Pomegranate or Giffard Apricot – all topped with the Italian white wine.
From the prepared brunch cocktails, check out the Elixir of Life, a refreshing adult beverage featuring Grey Goose Essence Watermelon, basil, St. George Pear Brandy, Harmless Harvest Coconut Water, lemon and pineapple, that can be ordered as a single glass or in a carafe.
Eaters can also take a trip to Philadelphia with the roasted pork sandwich. Served on Italian roll, the braised pork shank is joined by broccoli rabe and provolone cheese with a side of au jus.
This Italian eatery also includes a chic patio outside, which is dog-friendly. When the weather permits it, the outdoor dining is a perfect way to soak in the sun while enjoying brunch.
Yet again, Trees has lived up to the high standard he’s created for himself.
