At Horror Wood Video, the scariest movies never made come to life. The immersive drive-in haunt, produced by @majesticreptheatre and running Oct. 25-31, is a nostalgic ode to retro horror.⁣

“It’s a throwback to the movies I grew up watching as a kid in the 1980s, like The Lost Boys and Friday the 13th, with a lean towards fun over terror,” says Troy Heard, founding artistic director of Majestic Repertory Theatre. “After all, it’s a thin line between a laugh and a scream.”⁣

Scary Beginnings

Horrorwood Video started two years ago as an interactive, walk-thru experience with multiple activations built throughout the theatre. Because of COVID restrictions, Heard and his team have converted it into a drive-in. “Which is just as thrilling, if not more so,” Heard says.⁣

⁣“Although your car doors are locked and windows are rolled up, you never know what might be lurking on the other side,” he warns.⁣

Don’t Go Down that Alley!

⁣The experience takes place in the alley between Main Street and Casino Center. “What else is creepier than a dark alley?” Heard says. He also offers this tip for would-be attendees: “Keep an eye out for the ‘lost children’ signs. They might hold a clue to your survival.”⁣

⁣Horrorwood Video is just one of the many inventive productions created by Majestic Rep. While COVID has made it challenging for live events, the team has found creative ways to bring people together.⁣

⁣“Our team gets really excited about creating experiences that put the audience into another world as participants. It’s a throwback to the days of playing make-believe on the playground,” Heard says. “As we grow up, people often lose that sense of play and wonder, and it’s our job as immersive creators to bring you back to that place.”⁣
