Founded in 2003, the hall honors people who have made significant contributions to the visual arts, performing arts, or architecture. The 17th Annual College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame gala celebration at UNLV features a cocktail reception, dinner, and ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in the Student Union ballroom. This year's honorees include: acclaimed writer and cultural critic Dave Hickey, comedic magician Mac King, and comedian Scott "Carrot Top" Thompson. Also being recognized with the Koep Dean's Medal are Justin Favela, mixed media and installation artist, and Candy Schneider, vice president of education and outreach for The Smith Center. Stage director Giovanna Sardelli will be recognized as Alumna of the Year, and trumpeter and vocalist Brian Newman will receive the Las Vegas Newcomer Award. The Hall of Fame was founded in 2003 to honor past and present residents of Southern Nevada who have made a significant impact in the areas of visual arts, performing arts, and/or architecture. Past inductees include Tony Curtis; Phyllis McGuire; Robert Goulet; The Killers; Wayne Newton; Liberace; Clint Holmes; architects Tony Marnell, John Klai, Tom Schoeman, and William Snyder; Penn & Teller; Lance Burton; and Siegfried & Roy, among others. Cocktail Reception, 5:30 p.m. Dinner and Ceremony, 6:45 p.m.
