Ruth Handler, a businesswoman, mother and pioneer of her time, founded the doll in 1959, according to Barbie Mattel’s website. And she’s been a cultural icon ever since.

The Barbie: A Culture Icon the Exhibition goes on tour for the first time in the U.S. starting this October. The expo takes guests on a journey to explore the six-decade evolution of the doll from 1959 to present day on the Las Vegas Strip inside The Shops at Crystals. Nevada Residents can save $10 with the promo code: NEONLOCAL.

Guests will get a glimpse of the first-ever Barbie doll, over 150 vintage dolls and feature life-size fashion pieces presented as tastefully custom-themed displays. Plus there will be video media and interviews with Barbie designers to expand the evolving narrative.

The Most Diverse Doll Collection in the World

The convention celebrates Barbie and her global impact. The doll line has become the most diverse collection in the world. The cultural icon comes in more than 35 different skin tones, over 94 different hair styles and 9 body types, says the Barbie Mattel website. The brand also started to raise awareness for the importance of representation with their #mixupthetoybox, which features dolls with a range of skin tones, body types and various disabilities.

Las Vegas’ Dr. Audrey Cruz Barbie Doll

Not long ago, one of Las Vegas’ very own unsung heroes, Dr. Audrey Cruz, was honored by Mattel’s #ThankYouHeroes initiative to show gratitude for hard working frontline medical workers amid the COVID pandemic. Also, Dr. Cruz has been at the forefront of the movement of Asian American doctors fighting against racial bias and discrimination during the pandemic.

Pre-sale adult tickets for the expo start at $49.95 and presale children (3-12) tickets begin at $29.95. For seniors (55 and up), pre-sale tickets start at $39.95. And for military, pre-sale tickets also begin at $39.95.

The Shops at Crystals is located at 3720 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
