What Vegans Eat Downtown

Try 8 East and Barry’s Downtown Prime at Circa Las Vegas for meatless menus

Dining at Circa Las Vegas might seem like a carnivore’s dream with restaurant options ranging from fine dining at Barry’s Downtown Prime steakhouse to casual comforts at Victory Burger.

But did you know that Downtown’s newest casino-resort is very vegan friendly? If you are going the no-fur route or hanging out with friends who eat their veggies only, there are a number of options available from good ole’ American favorites to Eastern delights.

All the Veggies and Tofu, Too

First head to 8 East for a taste of Pan-Asian cuisine—expect Chinese, Szechuan, Shangdu and Thai flavors. While there are only two items on the menu branded VG for vegan—the fried tofu, served with sweet and sour chili sauce and the cucumber salad with pickled garlic and chili vinaigrette—many of their signature dishes can be made to suit those who have given up animal products.

Stir-fried bok choy, sauteed in fresh garlic can be made without the oyster sauce and stir-fried green beans come with tofu instead of ground pork or chicken. On the heartier side, pork belly bao gets a rich texture from mushroom filling as well as the fried rice, which can be modified from brisket or lobster to bok choy and mushroom. And the star of the menu, the Tokyo Crepe, with sauteed mushrooms, fried tofu, cilantro, and chimichurri can be made “hold the Kewpie mayo.”

A Meatless Steakhouse Menu

Downstairs at Barry’s Downtown Prime, chef Barry Dakake offers an entire menu without the meat. Start with the roasted tomato soup, with fresh basil and toasted garlic crostini. Then transition to the beet salad with a garden of earthly delights such as baby frisee, watercress, orange segment, toasted hazelnuts and orange shallot vinaigrette. For an entree, the portobello mushroom with asparagus risotto, marinated fennel and brussels sprouts shavings is light and delightful as well as the grilled vegetable plate with 15-year aged balsamic vinegar.

Whether you are a strictly vegan or just eating clean, Circa satisfies the palate in new and exciting ways.
