Circa Resort’s Awarding $10k for the Best Vegas Vickie Costume

Neon Idol for 2021 wins big this Halloween

By Melissa Gill | Las Vegas, NV | Circa Resort & Casino

This Halloween Circa Resort & Casino hosts an official Vegas Vickie Neon Idol for 2021 costume contest awarding $10,000 to the most innovative Vegas Vickie interpretation. If there is one costume contest worth entering this year, this one arguably offers the most enticing incentive.

A panel of local celebrity judges will ask “Vegas Vickie” lookalikes about how they integrated neon elements into their wardrobe and the participants will parade through the casino levels 1 and 2 modeling their Neon Idol style from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Guests keep your cameras ready for a chance to capture snapshots of these creative contenders. The winner announcement takes place at Mega Bar on level 1 at 11 p.m.

Who is Vegas Vickie?

For over three decades, Vegas Vickie, an iconic neon cowgirl sign wearing white fringe attire, reigned over Fremont Street’s Glitter Gulch strip club. Her original name was “Sassy Sally,” when the spot was previously a casino owned by Bob Stupak. In 1980, the sign came to life by Ad Art’s Jack DuBois and Charles Barnard. This Vegas gal became a celebrated historic piece of the city ever since her debut. And it would be a disservice not to mention her other half, Vegas Vic.

Across the street, Vegas Vic, a cowboy neon sign hovering over the Pioneer Club blaring “Howdy Podner,” in 1994 “married” Vickie, says the source. The neon signs matrimony made quite a buzz when it was announced. Although the Pioneer Club closed in 1995, his wife, Vegas Vickie, now lives on inside the downtown resort. While roaming in Downtown Las Vegas, it’s worth visiting these city gems to glimpse at legendary Vegas signage. And I can’t help but hope one of the Vegas Vickie contestants brings along a Vegas Vic to cheer her on.
