Las Vegas Wrangles in Star Studded Premiere for ‘1883’

Country superstars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and actors Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thorton took to the Wynn for the premiere

We may be looking to turn the calendar from 2021 to 2022, but Las Vegas was looking to the year 1883 this weekend. That is because the premiere for the newest Paramount+ show took place at the Wynn on Saturday night.

What is ‘1883‘?

The new television series is the prequel to the successful tv show Yellowstone, with Kevin Costner. The show follows the Dutton family James (Tim McGraw), Margaret (Faith Hill), Elsa (Isabel May) and youngster John (Audie Rick). The Duttons make their way on wagons from Fort Worth, Texas and head to parts unknown.

Along the journey they ride with a flock of folks (immigrants from across the pond) leaving behind poverty and looking north to a better life. The group is wrangled by Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott) and Thomas (LaMonica Garrett).

This story of expansion has all the makings of a good ‘ol fashioned western including brothels and smallpox. It’s all capped off with a “shoot first, ask questions later” attitude.

At the helm of the show is Oscar-nominated Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water). Sheridan is known for his western eye and deep meaty characters. “This is the best script I’ve ever written,” he tells the crowd gathered for the premiere at the Wynn.

“It’s a stylized view of the Old West, a mythical version of it,” says Sam Elliott of the ten episode show. He was one of many stars who took in the red carpet and premiere of 1883.

Elliot was joined by country superstars and lead actors Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The couple that have been married since 1996 said they were happy to be among people again. “It was kind of shocking walking in the front door of the hotel,” says Faith. “It was like, ‘we are in civilization again,’” adds Tim. “They have running water.”

For actor and musician Billy Bob Thorton who has a cameo in the show, it was not only a no-brainer, but a chance to reunite with old friends even if he was touring with his band at the time of production. He recalls Sheridan calling him up and saying, “it will take two days, come to Fort Worth,” he says with his beaming smile from the red carpet.  “It’s Faith and Tim and Sam Elliott, all old friends of mine.

So to go down there with old friends and work with Taylor, it’s like ‘why not?’”  For the record Billy Bob and Tim worked together on Friday Night Lights and Thorton and Elliott are longtime friends from their work on Tombstone.

101 Studios

This is said to be the first of many partnerships between Wynn Resorts and 101 Studios.

“This is a pivotal moment for both 101 Studios and Wynn Las Vegas as nothing like this has ever been done before” said David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios. “Our goal at 101 Studios is to tell compelling stories that spark conversations, and this partnership accomplishes that exactly.

The Wynn Las Vegas is a highly esteemed brand and their endeavor into entertainment will simply be a continuation of this reputation. Through this symbiotic relationship, there are countless publicity, finance, marketing and strategic benefits and advantages and we are thrilled to begin this collaboration.”
