NBA Sets Their Sights on Vegas, Just Not Immediately

With talk of the MLB and MLS wanting to come to Vegas, who wants to bet the NBA will beat everyone to the punch

It’s been a rough for the professional teams in Las Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights lost, and lost big to the LA Kings on Thursday night with a final of 2-6. The Raiders took a “L” over the weekend to Chicago. And our Lady Aces were unable to make it to the playoffs. But, all of that said, we are here to tell you there is some potential good news on the horizon and it may very well be coming to the hardwood.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spoke earlier this week about Las Vegas potentially getting an NBA team down the road. Silver indicated that a new team isn’t likely to come soon, though it is possible down the road.

It is important to note that when it comes to the NBA, new teams are not added or expanded with a fury. In fact, the last time a new team was added to the National Basketball Association was expanded was the Charlotte Bobcats, now the Charlotte Hornets, in 2004. So, set your expectations accordingly kids.

Also of note, while the NBA does not officially have a team in Vegas, that is not to say that they are without a presence. The city does have a basketball presence with the NBA Summer League. The off-season competition is organized by the NBA and is hugely successful adding more than 100,000 tickets to their bottom line.

In the meantime, while we lick our Las Vegas team wounds this week. Perhaps it’s time to turn our attention to basketball for our city. With talk of the MLB and MLS also possibly expanding to Las Vegas,  anyone wanna bet on the next professional sport to call our city home, anyone?
