Iconic live music destination and bar The Sand Dollar Lounge is coming Downtown with a second location this fall — inside Plaza Hotel and Casino!

Located on Spring Mountain Road, the Sand Dollar dates back to 1976 and has hosted a number of famous musicians with legends like Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Mick Jagger all having made appearances there. Though it had some slumps and closures, new owners Nathan Grates and Anthony Jamison took over in 2015 with the goal of restoring it to its original glory. Apparently, they had some other plans in mind, too.

The Sand Dollar Downtown will land at the Plaza in the former Plaza Event Center, a 5,000 sq. ft. space just off the casino floor. It will feature craft cocktails, pizzas from the Plaza’s Pop Up Pizza and, of course, live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Sand Dollar Downtown will be focused on recreating the classic age of electric blues and rock ‘n roll in the Downtown corridor,” Nathan said in a statement.

The news was initially shared in the latest episode of the Plaza’s On the Corner of Main Street podcast.

“I told everyone it’s no secret we’re going to add two new bars to the Plaza by the end of the year,” Plaza CEO Jonathan Jossel said in the episode.

“The Plaza is doing great and everything’s improving but we still struggle after 10:30 p.m. Once Oscar’s closes, the sports book closes, the showrooms close, you really are left with the casino and the hotel. There’s no additional entertainment,” Jonathan continued.

The Sand Dollar Downtown will remedy that.

Though details of the Plaza’s second bar have yet to be made public, expect more exciting announcements from the hotel-casino, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

“It is important for Downtown that we continue to evolve,” Jonathan said on the podcast.
