The cost of shipping has tripled from 16 cents per product in January to 55 cents in August, says The Washington Post. Yikes, that’s quite a leap. Bats are flying out of my pocketbook just thinking about it.
Plus, global supply chains are experiencing the aftershocks of the pandemic, which has caused 77 percent of the world’s ports to have abnormally long turnaround times, according to Bloomberg. With these unexpected shipping delays looming over the holiday season, Small Business Saturday on November 27 comes to the rescue.
Instead of wearing out that golden “Place Your Order” button on Amazon, consider catching all the local seasonal deals rolling out from small businesses within the Las Vegas community.
1. Shop Small Henderson
For Henderson habitants, the annual “Shop Small Henderson” event is happening on Water Street this Saturday, November 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Support local businesses while also snagging sweet deals.
Along with the special promos, the occasion also features family-friendly fun like the Ugly Sweater Contest, Hidden Talent Contest plus performances by local talents Mikey VIP-DJ, School of Rock Green Valley, School of Rock Summerlin and Basic High School Choir.

2. Support Non-profit Gems 4 U Discount Store
Local non-profit organization, El- Shaddai Refuge Homes, which operates Gems 4 U Family Discount Clothing Store is offering 20 percent off their entire store this Saturday and Sunday.
The non-profit helps support job training and housing the Las Vegas community. Their mission is to help those who have been displaced in the community and to provide people from all backgrounds services to combat homelessness.
Gems 4 U sells a variety of clothes, hats, accessories among other “gems,” while also giving more people job opportunities in our city.

3. Browse Fergusons Downtown Las Vegas
Looking to shop locally this holiday season? Downtown Fergusons is filled with a mix of shops that all sell one-of-a-kind gifts. Listen to live music while hopping from shop to shop in its main complex, the Gather House and a special Market in the Alley, which will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. With over 50 vendors offering a treasure trove, patrons are bound to discover something special among all the rare crafts for sale. Some small businesses that are offering goodies this holiday weekend include:
Hey Maker & Us, a store founded by Mary Felker and Ashley Zabarte, which sells special boxes (similar to monthly subscription surprise boxes) with goodies inside that highlight other makers in the city.
