At just 2 years old, Nixon already knows how to dress for all of life’s best occasions
For Las Vegas fashion baby Nixon Storm, fashion is a way of life, thanks to her stylish mom, Ruth Gray, Mrs. Nevada 2013. OffTheStrip chats with Nixon about what is means to be a best dressed toddler right now, the story behind her signature bow and what charity she wholeheartedly supports this holiday season.
Since you came on the scene two years ago what are some of the fashion trends you love?
I love athleisure wear! Sneakers and sports tops. I have an amazing collection of Nikes and Jordans. I also love the off the shoulder (polished look) which can be casual, classic or boho. I am also a big fan of leggings … printed, plain … you name it, I’ll wear it!
I love pairing my Golden Knights jerseys with my tutus and gold Nike Cortez on game days. It truly is a conglomerate of all of my favorite pieces!
Do you ever help your brothers with their looks?
Nash and Knox have really just been into wearing their athleisure wear lately as well. Good thing it’s in style right now! I do try and encourage them to change it up a bit. I helped pick out a cute, casual look from Abercrombie for their last fall photoshoot with me. I am also currently working on their looks for a Christmas shoot here in a couple weeks. Thinking of velvet blazers to go with this really gorgeous dress I’ve picked out for myself!
What is the story behind your signature bow?
I’m just really one of those “girly” girls and a bow is such a versatile accessory. It easily takes a blah outfit to fab in no time at all! I’ve also secretly caught mommy stealing them to insert in her updos on those “dry shampoo” hair days.
Wish for the world for this holiday season…
This year has been really hard for a lot of families. I think it’s important to take time and really reflect this holiday season on what we all have and can be thankful for. With a lot of people struggling just to get by right now, please remember the importance of helping those less fortunate than you.
Moana-still a fav? What is it about her that really grabs you?
I really love Moana. I connect with her because she is never afraid of being different, she faces her fears, and listens to her heart. (not to mention we kind of look alike!) Elsa and Anna have also really been moving up as strong contenders lately. I really look up to a lot of the Disney princesses for their compassion, ambition, fearlessness and determination.
Fashion Icon…
There are so many fashion icons these days…but let’s stick to the classics. Two of my faves … Jackie O, known for her preppy style and gigantic sunglasses and Grace Kelly, known for her polished and elegant, posed yet graceful style. Grace in my opinion was today’s Meghan Markle. Feel free to follow me and some of my favorite looks on my Instagram page @nixonstormgray
Mom was Mrs. Nevada. Do you have your eye on any crowns?
Yes. My mom was Mrs. Nevada America 2013, and 2nd Runner Up at Mrs. America. I just recently got my first pair of figure skates, so as of right now I would like to focus on my figure skating career. I’m at the rink daily watching my brothers play hockey and the rink just seems to really be growing on me! Never say never though … I am still only 2!
Favorite children’s charity
My favorite local charity is The Just One Project. They not only help children but their whole family. The Just One Project was founded in 2014 by CEO Brooke Neubauer and has become one of the fastest growing nonprofit organizations in Southern Nevada. Their mission is: that it takes Just One person to make a difference. And they really do an amazing job of connecting the community and giving back. Please consider some of their incredible volunteer opportunities by going to thejustoneproject.org
