Las Vegas Raiders Henry Ruggs III Involved in Serious Car Crash

Police announced that Henry Ruggs III will be charged with DUI

Las Vegas Raider Nation. We have some sad, breaking news to cover. “TMZ” reported that Star Wide Receiver Henry Ruggs III was in a terrifying car crash at 3:40 a.m. P.T.

The Police have announced that Ruggs will be charged with DUI, resulting in the death of one person dying in the accident.

The 22-year-old NFL player is in year number 2 with the Las Vegas Raiders after being drafted 12 overall in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.

What Occurred

At about 3:40 AM PT, the LVMPD were called to the crash involving Ruggs’ Chevrolet Corvette and a Toyota Rav4, which were found in flames. The victim was found deceased inside the vehicle.

First, the investigation found that Ruggs’ car hit the other one from behind, and was the reason for the crash. Ruggs stayed on the scene after the crash and, “showed signs of impairment.” Then, he was transmitted to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ruggs’ attorney’s statement

“On behalf of our client, Henry Ruggs III, we are conducting our own investigation as of this writing and ask everyone to reserve judgement until all the facts are gathered.”

The investigation is ongoing and this is a serious misjudgment from Ruggs. A life is taken and a career might be over, and he could end up in jail.

According to PFF’s Ari Meirov notes that “under Nevada law, DUI resulting in death is a Class B felony and punishment includes 2-to-20 years in prison.”

Las Vegas Raiders’ Statement

“The Raiders are aware of an accident involving Henry Ruggs III that occurred this morning in Las Vegas. We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”

How Plagued Have the Raiders Been?

So far in the 2021 NFL season, Ruggs has improved in his receiving yards and his yards per catch. He has caught 24 passes for 469 yards and two touchdowns. That so far has him averaging 19.5 yards a reception.

The Raiders were in the news back in October when former head coach Jon Gruden resigned from his position. It was due to emails released by the NFL in which Gruden used racist, homophobic, and mysoganisitic language from 2011-2018. Before Gruden was fired, the Raiders dropped two straight games after starting out 3-0. Luckily, the team has started off 2-0 under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia. While 5-2 is a great start on the field, the Raiders will need to start winning off-the-field for them to be taken seriously again.

Next Available Option To Replace Rugg’s

Now if Ruggs is going to be out for any extended period of time, who will replace him? The one reasonable candidate to replace him is slot receiver Zay Jones. He is not as explosive as Henry Ruggs, but he can run any route and did show at East Carolina that he can be a capable outside number 1 receiver. Also, he has good hands, and should be able to benefit playing the outside in a shotgun-spread ball type of offense. If that doesn’t work, than the Raiders will have to rely on the running game more, which means the receivers may see less targets without Ruggs in the lineup.

Remember folks, it is important to remember the victims and the family of the person who actually lost their life regardless of what happens to Ruggs…..
