Wig Out with Cosmetology of Las Vegas For Local Breast Cancer Survivors

CILV is donating wigs and makeovers to 20 local breast cancer survivors picked from local nominations

At the Cosmetology Institute of Las Vegas, late October is the time to wig out. That is when the professionals and students donate free wigs and makeovers to local breast cancer survivors. The event is appropriately called ‘Wig-a-thon.’

This week (October 26- 30) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the students will begin hand making the wigs that will be donated. Cut, cut, cut. Snip, snip, snip. That’s what you will likely see and hear all this week in the North Las Vegas location. The wigs are worked on tirelessly and serve multiple purposes. One of which is to teach hopeful professionals. Also (and most importantly) to give something special to the lovely ladies who have survived one of the most deadly diseases for women.

The joy and happiness is one of the last steps in a longer journey for the staff and students at CILV though. Certainly it is one of the most motivating inspirations for those who work and learn there.

Speaking of the women who will be on the receiving end, there are 20 in total. The Cosmetology Institute of Las Vegas along with the American Cancer Society of Nevada will partner up to choose the lucky ladies. Those women will be among many who were nominated from the community. The moment the wigs are presented guarantee ugly cries from both the survivors and students.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, breast cancer is the second most common cancer, behind skin cancer, for women in the United States. Numbers like that only stress the need for support and CILV is only too happy to offer theirs.  In fact, this is the fifth year that the company has done this event.

They don’t stop at the wig-a-thon either. Next month on November 5, a Nevada Health Center Mammovan is stopping at their location. The purpose of the visit is for ladies to get their ladies looked at by way of a mammogram. Early detection is the best key. Flat like a pancake, am I right ladies?

The Cosmetology Institute of Las Vegas is certainly giving us all warm fuzzy feelings with their community involvement. But they do even more for individuals looking to further their lives. The school is a place where anyone can learn the trade of cosmetology, nail design and obviously hair design. Programs on these and more are running throughout the year.

For more information on the Cosmetology Institute of Las Vegas, please call 702-756-2208. The school is located 3249 W. Craig Rd., #100, North Las Vegas.
