Several Downton businesses in the Las Vegas Arts District are playing musical chairs, with shops and restaurants shuffling to new spaces. The always bustling Esther’s Kitchen will move to a larger space just one block up to 1131 Main St. next year. Until very recently, that space was home to the iconic pink Retro Vegas boutique.
Esther’s kitchen
According to the local newspaper, the new space will allow Esther’s to create attractions such as pasta-making stations and live-fire cooking. Construction will take place throughout 2022, with Esther’s debuting its new digs in 2023. Once Esther’s moves into its new building, Chef James Trees will convert the current space at 1130 S. Casino Center Blvd. #110 into a French restaurant called L’Aristocrat.
Retro Vegas
According to a March 15 update on the Retro Vegas website, the owners are retiring after 14 years in business. During those 14 years, the shop became a destination for visitors around the world hunting for mid-century modern furnishings and cool vintage art, lighting and accessories. The store’s remaining inventory will be sold in an auction in mid-April. A spokesman for Esther’s Kitchen told the RJ that the restaurant will “try and stay as authentic to the building as it exists now.”
The Red Kat
Vintage shop The Red Kat, which was a store within a store at Retro Vegas, has moved into its own brick-and-mortar a few blocks over to 1300 S. Main St. According to their Instagram, a grand opening will be held on or before April 1. The Red Kat’s new space was previously home to Priscilla Fowler Gallery, which recently moved one block up and two blocks over to 1427 S. Commerce St.
On top of all that, in recent months the Arts District has welcomed new stores such as the Pharmacy Skate Shop and Vegas Bike and Skate, among others.
