SEE THIS: The next time you’re walking down Third Street, between Charleston Boulevard and Gass Avenue, look down. The sidewalks are now engraved with poems from local poets.
The Third Street Poetry Project, unveiled by the City of Las Vegas on March 21, features works from 10 Las Vegas poets: Heather Lang-Cassera, Vogue Robinson, RelldaTruth, Flynn Dexter, Ash DelGrego, Bruce Issacson, Rodney Lee , Kari O, A.J. Moyer and Keith Brantley.
Several of the poems are inspired by the city itself, like Bruce Isaacson’s:
“Our City
Bruce IsAacson
Hard to believe she was
once a tumbleweed –
an unmoored bunch of
sticks blowing across
desert sand. But she’s
always been like that:
fast – transient – warm –
riding the wind.”
These engraved poems follow recent improvements that have transformed the stretch of Third Street into a pedestrian-friendly green space. Upgrades include a new permanent stage between Hoover and Gass, a rehabilitated roadway, widened sidewalks, LED-lit shade structures, a sculpture by Wayne Littlejohn and more.
