Relive The ‘80s and ‘90s with Debbie Gibson and Joey McIntyre Live From Las Vegas’ Starting Thursday

The duo has a handful of shows at The Venetian this Thursday

By Toni Gonzales

There was a time when young girls everywhere would long to be lovingly sung to by New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) member Joey McIntyre. Ditto for teen boys and Debbie Gibson. Well both are getting their wish here in Las Vegas. The pair have teamed up for “Debbie Gibson & Joey McIntyre Live From Las Vegas,” (insert swoon here). Us older folks, and by older I mean over 22-years old, will be reliving our younger years when their show starts this Thursday, August 26, inside the Sands Showroom at the Venetian

Originally, only four shows were announced for late August. However, those quickly sold-out and more shows were added to the calendar for mid-September.

Debbie Gibson provided a lot of the songs us angsty girls would dedicate to our crushes on the radio. Songs like “Foolish Beat,” “Shake Your Love” and “Only in My Dreams.” Starting at only 16-years old, Gibson became the girl we fashioned our hair and style after. Heck, Debbie was likely responsible for the Aqua Net hairspray and scrunchie craze! But, she was also a role model for many would-be singers as Gibson was the youngest artist in history to write, produce, and perform a number one hit. She has entered the charts again recently for her “Girls Night Out” release last year with the song peaking at number four on the charts. This summer she is hitting the big screen with Anthony Michael Hall for the movie “The Class.”

Her partner for this limited engagement is Joey McIntyre. He is the youngest member of New Kids on the Block, a wildly popular boy band in late ’80s and early ’90s. Joey was the source of many middle school girl fights. You were either a Jordan Knight fan, or a Joey McIntrye fan. Since belting “Please Don’t Go Girl,” “Hangin’ Tough” and “Step by Step,” Joey has been busy with an acting career. He has appeared on Broadway in Wicked and Waitress.

Together, Debbie and Joey have recorded “Lost in Your Eyes, The Duet” which is available now.

Audiences of the live Las Vegas show will no doubt get a live performance of that single. If you need help finding the show, go to the Venetian and follow the screaming middle-aged women on Thursday night (crimped hair is not allowed).
