The Garrison is a sleek, luxurious monument to men’s grooming, one that draws from centuries-old tradition but with a modern vision. Its barbers are artisans and educators, armed with years of experience. Its space, located in the Huntridge Shopping Center and in the works for more than a year, is a custom-designed work of art with beautiful wood and steelwork, top-of-the-line equipment, skylights for an inviting atmosphere, a center bar where customers will soon be able to enjoy a complimentary drink, a bold neon sign, and more. As its name suggests, The Garrison is also a salute to military veterans, with a display case for customers’ badges and patches.
“It’s a classic, traditional barbershop, but it’s a very elevated service that we provide here,” says manager Shon Lawhon, a Gulf War combat veteran who left his own shop in Huntington Beach to man The Garrison. “We take a lot of pride in what we do.”
It shows in both The Garrison’s aesthetics and craftsmanship. The shop offers a variety of services, from classic haircuts and shaves to shampooing and facials, along with a variety of grooming products. Because it’s a premium service, a classic haircut starts at $38. “Our price point is really a personal, really connective service where we really try to reach beyond the haircut,” Shon says.
At the helm is owner Elliott Chester, a veteran barber who earned his stripes at Truefitt & Hill in Caesars Palace and The Art of Shaving in Mandalay Bay before opening Elliott and Co. in Henderson 13 years ago. He’s earned a reputation in the Vegas Valley as a premier barber, becoming a go-to for UFC fighters like Conor McGregor. When developer J Dapper invited Elliott to the Huntridge Shopping Center, he jumped at it.
“There’s really a culture here,” Elliott says. “You feel something’s happening here. I don’t know if i can put my finger on the pulse of exactly what that is. I just know that it feels good and I like it, and I definitely wanted to be a part of it.”
