With special guests Salt-N-Pepa, En Vogue and Rick Astley
Generation X has long held itself up as the “forgotten” generation sandwiched between two larger, uncaring cohorts. Perhaps it’s true, but not everyone has overlooked the Gen Xers.
New Kids on the Block remember.
In what might be the most consequential concert announcement since Madonna’s Blonde Ambition Tour, the artists occasionally known as NKOTB are bringing The Mixtape Tour 2022 to Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena on May 29, 2022.
And that’s not all.
Imagine, if you will, 12,000 screaming fans, a cornucopia of Gen Xers from The Breakfast Club of life – jocks, nerds, hotties, degenerates, whatever the hell Ally Sheedy was supposed to be – all standing shoulder to shoulder for NKOTB’s opening acts: Salt-N-Pepa, En Vogue, and, wait for it, mother-freakin Rick Astley. Imagine getting Rick-rolled in real life.
En Vogue Rick Astley Salt-N-Pepa
It’s happening; all four of those hall-of-fame talents in one room, for one night only. It totally makes up for all those lonely afternoons watching MTV and waiting for a parent to come home to make dinner.
Just kidding, Gen Xers had microwaves and Swanson TV dinners.
The Mixtape Tour 2022 kicks off in Cincinnati and will run for 50-plus dates. Tickets go on sale October 8 at Ticketmaster.
If you’re wondering what to expect, the whole gang, sans Astley, made a promotional appearance on the Kelly Clarkson show. Las Vegans, more than anyone, already have a pretty good idea, considering a previous iteration of the Mixtape Tour played the same Vegas venue in 2019. That tour included pop star Debbie Gibson, who recently teamed with NKOTB’s Joey McIntyre for a series of shows at the Venetian.
And if you’re wondering what it would be like to have Sir Patrick Stewart introduce Salt-N-Pepa, it might go a little something like this.
