Big League Weekend At Las Vegas Ball Park
Baseball in Las Vegas is coming back in 2022. The minor league affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, “The Las Vegas Aviators,” are proud to open Las Vegas Ballpark on Saturday, March 12, and Sunday, March 13, 2022 for the return of “Big League Weekend.”
This year’s edition will once again welcome the Oakland Athletics as they take on the Cleveland Guardians for the first time in two years. The big celebration was not held this past year due to COVID regulations. Because of everybody’s compliance during the last two seasons, 2022 will be a full-go event.
The Long-Awaited Return
Baseball fans from everywhere have been waiting to return to Las Vegas for two years now. While they’ve still had the opportunity to watch the Aviators play, the excitement of professional baseball being held in Vegas is a real treat.
This event has the spectacle feeling of a Super Bowl or World Series. The event draws nearly full capacity of dedicated and passionate baseball fans. 2022 will not disappoint.
The possibility of Fewer cOVID-Restrictions
The Aviators released the following statement:
“We are excited to welcome back Big League Weekend to Las Vegas Ballpark after a year of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Aviators President/COO Don Logan said. “We welcome our major league affiliate, the Oakland Athletics, who will face Cleveland for a two-game series. Las Vegas Ballpark will once again provide an outstanding atmosphere and environment for Major League Baseball. Fans, both locals and tourists that visit during this event, will will have a memorable time.”
Cleveland will be making its fourth trip to Las Vegas (1998, 2018, 2020) for Big League weekend, but the Aviators new release revealed that 2020 was the first edition held at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Guardians were defeated by the A’s (8-6) on February 29, 2020, in front of 8,159 fans, and (8-5) on March 1, 2020 (7,521).
Meanwhile, this will be the seventh time Oakland has played in Vegas with five of those games being held on Big League Weekend, (1994, 1997, 2000, 2015, 2020).
This year will be the second game held at Las Vegas Ballpark and the second game played vs the Indians.
