Raiders to host Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in 2024
Hey Las Vegas fans, let’s celebrate! It looks like there’s going to be another Football Championship game coming to Allegiant Stadium. The NFL is taking a liking to the new Allegiant Stadium by choosing the facility to host the 2022 Pro Bowl in February and announced they will also be hosting the Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.
The Chosen One
Pending final approval from owners, Las Vegas has been the next site for Super Bowl LVIII, according to Review-Journal and sources familiar with the process. An official announcement is upcoming on Wednesday, when the owners will meet in Dallas. The NFL and the Raiders did not want to comment on Monday.
New Orleans was suppose to host Super Bowl LVIII. The NFL added a 17th-game to the schedule, but the conclusion of the regular season was pushed forward by a week. The 2024, end-of-the-season Champion game was moved from February 4, 2022 to February 11, 2022. A struggle with the New Orleans’ annual Mardi Gras festival was the culprit.
New Orleans gave up their rights to host Super Bowl LVIII in return of hosting in 2025. The Super Bowl would then fall on February 9, and not conflict with their Mardi Gras schedule.
That gave Las Vegas the perfect opportunity to host the “Big Show”. They have come out as one of the NFL’s strongest new markets after the welcoming of the Raiders in 2020 and the opening of Allegiant Stadium.
Background
Allegiant Stadium is a fabulous facility for sports lovers. Since the first time it hosted fans in 2021, it has given sports viewers and the NFL a shiny new place to hold games. The first Pro bowl game was canceled in January, 2021, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Because of the generosity of the league, they awarded the stadium the annual exhibition game in January, 2022.
The 2021 PAC-12 Football Championship was held here back on December 3, 2021. The Utah Utes put on a gripping show from start to finish. They easily won over the Oregon Ducks 38-10. The game hosted over 56,000 fans out of the maximum capacity of 65,000. It’s safe to say that this stadium is looking to be the home of more games.
On Thursday, December 30, 2021, Allegiant Stadium will host its first ever Las Vegas Bowl Game. Sponsored by SRS Distribution, the annual bowl game will have a new look starting this year. For the first time in the event’s history, a team from the Big Ten conference will play against the team representing the Pac-12 Conference. The 2021 edition will be played between the Wisconsin Badgers (8-4) and the Arizona State Sun Devils (8-4).
Allegiant Stadium became the new home to the UNLV Rebels football team in the Fall of 2020. Due to the pandemic, the games were played in front of no fans. After this year, it will be the first time that the Rebels played in front of fans at the stadium.
Proposal
Vegas devised a program to sway NFL owners in having the Super Bowl played at a multibillion dollar complex. Allegiant Stadium was built in 2021 with the vision of hosting the Las Vegas Raiders, concerts and many major events. That dream is about to come true in 2024.
Vegas is marketed as one of the best entertainment cities of the world. It holds the important hotel space to host thousands of fans before the big game. These arguments were just enough for the owners to agree on a pending approval for this important day.
Las Vegas is now a benchmark for one of the NFL’s must attend sports market. Before hosting the Super Bowl in 2024, the city already has two upcoming major events scheduled for 2022. Allegiant Stadium will be holding the Pro Bowl on Sunday, February, 6, 2022. Then, it will be hosting this year’s NFL Draft from April 28-30, 2022 in Las Vegas.
Lets keep our fingers crossed and see what happens tomorrow….
