Thursday’s game between the Vegas Golden Knights and St. Louis Blues has been postponed.
The NHL announced that one player and an additional member of the Golden Knights’ coaching staff entered COVID-19 protocol Thursday.
This comes after the Golden Knights had to play without their entire coaching staff on Tuesday because of similar protocols. General manager Kelly McCrimmon stepped behind the bench for the game alongside coaches of the team’s AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights.
The Golden Knights have four games on the schedule for next week. An announcement on whether those games will need to be rescheduled will come in the next 24 to 48 hours.
The team has shut down its entire training facility until further notice, and the game against the Blues will be played at a later date.
Unfortunately, this is the sad reality of professional sports in 2021. This is already the seventh COVID-19-related postponement the NHL has faced a few weeks into the new season.
Hopefully, this is just the league showing an abundance of caution rather than a full-on outbreak.
