Vegas Golden Knights Plays of the Week: Fleury Continues to Amaze

Marc-Andre Fleury stole the show for VGK this week

By Raymond Harrison

Welcome to the first installment of the Vegas Golden Knights Plays of the Week.

Every Monday, we will look at the best Golden Knights’ highlights from the past seven days. Be it a scintillating save, an end-to-end goal or a bone-crushing hit, it will be here.

This week, we only have two games to work with because of COVID-19 postponements. Alas, there were still several praise-worthy plays from the hometown team.

Let’s dive in.

A Stellar Shutout for Fleury

During Monday’s 3-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche, Golden Knights’ goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury picked up the 64th shutout of his NHL career.

He made 34 saves in the contest, but perhaps none were nicer than this highlight-reel robbery of Nazem Kadri.

Or maybe these rapid-fire stops in tight were his best work of the night.

One thing is for sure, Fleury is playing at an unbelievable level right now.

More Magic From Marc-Andre

Despite having almost a week off between games, Fleury was in fine form again on Saturday.

Locked in a 2-2 tie with the Anaheim Ducks, the game hung in the balance during overtime.

Cue the stage for the man lovingly nicknamed “Flower.”

I guess this is just what we should come to expect from the 36-year-old.

He now has a 9-3-0 record on the season to go along with a 1.59 goals-against average, .941 save percentage and three shutouts.

Dare I say the Vezina Trophy might be in his future?

Overtime Heroics for Karlsson

Fleury’s saves on Saturday did not go to waste.

With just 1:37 left in overtime, William Karlsson vaulted the Golden Knights to the victory column with a breakaway goal.

The winning tally was Karlsson’s second goal of the game and his 12th goal in 22 career games against the Ducks.

The marker also set a milestone for his goaltender, as the victory was Fleury’s 100th with the Golden Knights. In fact, Fleury became the second-fastest goalie in NHL history to reach 100 wins with a franchise.

Up Next

The Golden Knights have four games on the schedule for the upcoming week starting today against the Minnesota Wild.

They also have a back-to-back on the weekend against the San Jose Sharks.

Come back next week to see all the best plays.
