Celebrate the First Amendment with the Center for Science and Wonder. Speakers: Joe Cohn Legislative & Policy Director from FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education), will address the current climate for free speech on college campuses. Sam Grover Associate Counsel from FFRF (Freedom From Religion Foundation), will focus on some current events within the free-thought movement, with an emphasis on exploring why the current Christian Nationalist push to radically redefine "religious liberty" is endangering the rights of many Americans. Admission to just this event at 6 PM is $10 per person. ORPay admission to the National Atomic Testing Musuem on Saturday Feb 29th during regular business hours (10AM to 5PM) & this 6 PM event will be included. OR Admission for this 6 PM event and all other CSAW hosted events will be FREE for donating members. Become a donating member for as little as $9 a month. Joe Cohn graduated cum laude from UNLV and co-founded the universitys ACLU chapter. He graduated from the University of PA Law School and the Fels Institute of Government Administration, where he earned his Juris Doctor and masters in Government Administration. He advanced civil liberties as a staff attorney for the US Court of Appeals the Third Circuit. Joe served as the interim legal director for ACLU affiliates in Nevada and Utah. At FIRE, Joe is responsible for efforts to work with the government to defend campus free speech and due process.SAM GROVER received his B.A. in philosophy & government from Wesleyan University. He first worked for FFRF in 2010 as a legal intern while attending Boston University School of Law. In 2011, his article on the religious exemptions in the Affordable Care Acts individual health insurance mandate was published in the American Journal of Law and Medicine. After receiving his J.D. from Boston University in 2012, Sam worked as a law clerk for the Vermont Office of Legislative Council where he drafted legislation on health care, human services, and tax issues.
